Outstanding GCSE results for Tring School students

Posted on: 23/08/2018

Students at Tring School are celebrating exceptional GCSE results, with top grades achieved in English, Maths and Science as well as all other subjects.

For 2018, a new grading system has been introduced for nearly all subjects where performance is graded from 9-1.

Under the new GCSE grading scheme, grade 9 equals an A** and is awarded to only a very small percentage of students, placing them in the top 3% nationally. Grade 8 is equivalent to an A*, grade 7 equals an A, whilst grade 6 is the equivalent to a B+. Grade 5 is a strong pass and grade 4 is considered a standard pass, equivalent to the former 'C' grade.

More than three quarters of Tring School students achieved at least a standard pass (grade 4+, equivalent to grade C or above) and well over half attained a strong pass (grade 5+, equivalent to a C+ or B grade) in both English and Maths.

Tring School's highest performing student this year is Sam Borjarski, who achieved eight 9s, one grade 7, an A* and an A^ in Further Maths. This special grade is only awarded to the top ten students in the country.

Amongst the many other outstanding GCSE students are:

  • Corin Schofield – 9, 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6, A, A.
  • Charlotte Adams – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, A.
  • Eliza Bellis – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, A.
  • Joe Nicholson – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6, A*.
  • Tim Baldwin – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 6, 6, A, A.
  • Giulia Heaton – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 7, 7, 6, 5, 5.
  • Eavie Houlihan – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6.
  • Ben Sharp – 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 6, A*, A.

  • Jevan Impey – 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 6, B.

Commenting on the results, Headteacher Sue Collings said: "We are delighted for all of our GCSE students who have achieved a brilliant set of results – huge congratulations to everyone on their achievements.

"The new GCSE grading system has presented its own challenges, however we are very proud to have achieved excellent results again this year. This would not have been possible without our dedicated teaching staff, support from parents and governors – and of course our students who have put in a huge amount of work.

"Well done to all of our students, the majority of whom will join our Sixth Form in September to continue with their A Level and BTEC qualifications."

Most of Tring School's GCSE students will move on to the school's outstanding Sixth Form which last week once again reported excellent A-level results. Tring School Sixth Form also attracts over 50 new students every year who join from other schools.
