Uniform and Appearance in Year 11

Students are ambassadors of the school and a high standard of dress and appearance is expected at all times. The Governors of Tring School together with the Headteacher are responsible for setting school uniform regulations. If parents or pupils are uncertain about any aspect of uniform or appearance they are advised to check with the school.

Blazer

This is plain black with the school crest on the pocket. The blazer should be worn at all times in school, apart from those lessons where blazers would be unsuitable. The blazer and badge may be purchased from Dennis’s of Tring.

Blouses/Shirts

Blouses and shirts are light blue, with a collar, full length cuffed sleeve or short sleeved if preferred. If a vest or T shirt is worn under the blouse or shirt it must be plain white and should not be visible. The blouse/shirt must be tucked in at all times. Fitted shirts that do not tuck in are not allowed.

Jumper

Year 11 are permitted to wear a plain black V neck jumper. The school tie should be clearly visible through the V neck. No symbols or patterns are allowed on the jumpers. Cardigans are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

Skirts or Trousers

Skirts must be black, knee length and pleated. The approved skirt is to be purchased from Dennis’s of Tring. Trousers must be black and of a design and material appropriate for school wear. Cords, jeans or trousers and skirts made of any kind of denim or denim look alike are not permitted. Patterned material is not allowed. Trousers must be full length, plain black, tailored and without external pockets. Leggings, hipsters, cropped trousers, skirt-trouser combination and trousers with splits are not permitted. Students are permitted to wear a narrow, plain black belt, with a simple buckle.

School Tie

The school tie is royal blue and must be worn unless specific permission for its removal is granted. Ties may be purchased from Dennis’s of Tring.

Socks and Tights

Socks and tights should be without a pattern and of a single colour appropriate to the uniform colour.

Shoes

Black polishable shoes must be worn in school. Trainers and other types of sports shoes are not allowed to be worn except for games lessons. Heels should be no more than 2"/50mm high and stilettos are not allowed. If boots are worn, they must be fully laced and tied, and worn under trousers. Boots may not be worn with skirts. Shoes must be worn to and from school.

Outdoor Coats

Parents are asked to provide sensible weatherproof coats. Denim, leather jackets and coats with slogans are not considered suitable for school use. Coats that are light coloured and/or incorporate fluorescent and reflective materials are more visible and therefore safer. Sweatshirts with hoods are not allowed to be worn at any time.

Jewellery

The wearing of jewellery by boys and girls at school is not recommended for reasons of safety, security and suitability. We strongly urge parents to discourage its use at school. If, however, any parent still feels that some jewellery should be worn, only the following is permitted, which must be removed for activities such as sports and practical lessons.

One simple chain worn inside the blouse or shirt, i.e. not visible.

One simple signet ring, worn on a finger or on a chain around the neck.

For pupils with pierced ears, one pair of simple studs, one in each ear. Studs or rings must not be worn on any other part of the body, including the nose, lip, eyebrow, navel and tongue.

A watch.

If pupils are asked to remove items of jewellery for sports or practical activities, their safekeeping remains the pupils’ responsibility.

Make-Up

Pupils in Year 11 may wear make-up as long as it is discreetly applied. Extremes of hairstyle, either cut or colour, are not acceptable.

Sportswear

Pupils are reminded that sports clothing or footwear is not suitable for school.

Full uniform and correct footwear must be worn to and from school
