Welcome to Tring School

It gives me great pleasure to warmly welcome you to Tring School and its learning community.  We proudly celebrate all our achievements and this is underpinned by a strong set of values which harness high standards and a positive ethos for learning.  As a Church of England school we embrace our beliefs by working in partnership with everyone and this includes students, parents, staff, governors and the community. Our aim is to enable each student to be a successful learner, yet education is far more than this and we believe in enabling students to be confident individuals and responsible citizens.  We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our learning community.

Unauthorised absence for term time holidays

As you are aware from the school’s Attendance Policy, website and newsletters, Tring School strongly discourages parents and carers from taking their children out of school during term time, as this can be damaging to a child’s educational progress. Children can find it difficult to catch up on the learning they have missed which longer term, can have a negative impact on their progress. Equally important is that children can be given an unhelpful message about the value and importance of going to school.

Absence from school for a family holiday is not a right. The Pupil Registration Regulations 2006 outline the conditions under which leave of absence for term time holidays may be granted. Regulation 7 states that ‘leave of absence should only be granted due to the special circumstances relating to that application’.

Should permission not be granted and you proceed with the holiday, the absence will be unauthorised. If cumulative unauthorised absence exceeds 20 sessions, Tring School will apply to the Local Authority for a Penalty Notice to be issued without further warning.
